Candy Corn Courtesy of A & J

Now the start of school brings questions from my six year old--when is Halloween? When will Joe  (of A & J Bakery) get candy corn for Halloween? Well...it's time. If you are in the market for peanut-free, nut-free, gluten-free candy corn, call A & J Bakery right away! They have allergy friendly candy corn again this year and it's going fast. We already made candy corn rice krispie treats and plan to make candy corn ice cream next. I doubt we can make them last till Halloween but we're enjoying gobbling them up.  (By the way, when you call A & J, don't forget to order some biscotti too!)

I wanted to include a picture of the yummy candy corn rice krispie treats we made, but...we ate them all so fast!

I must give a big public thank you to A & J for the candy corn. We love A & J Bakery!  Visit their website at www.aandjbakery.net or phone (866) 426.9075.

Asthma Camp

Here is an interesting article I came upon after noticing a flyer for an Asthma Camp scheduled for Saturday, September 25, 10 am to 1 pm at the Baker School in Brockton, Massachusetts. I was surprised to learn that 10% of children in Massachusetts have asthma and that Brockton's childrhood asthma rate is higher than anywhere else in the state. So many children with food allergies have asthma, I'd be curious to know if the numbers of food allergic children are similarly higher there. I think offering a mini-asthma camp is a great idea; Children's Hospital Boston also offers asthma camps, and I imagine hospitals around the U.S. do as well. Anyone attend an asthma camp? How was it?

Treasure Mills Peanut-Free Snacks Spotted at Roche Bros.

If you like Treasure Mills products and live in southern New England, you may be pleased to know the peanut-free snacks have been spotted in Roche Bros. stores in eastern Massachusetts. They come in convenient individual packages and can be frozen easily too. They have a variety of snacks and are perfect for the lunch box. The Roche Bros. near us had so many varieties--five, I think--we had trouble choosing which one to buy. We don't usually have that many really peanut-free choices! We were so stunned, we took the above photo to commemorate the occasion. (The Treasure Mills boxes are on the right.)

Did you find any "new" allergy friendly goodies in your local market recently?

Does Your Child Go to a Food Allergy Friendly School?

Do you have a food allergic child in school this year? How accommodating has your child's school been so far?

Food allergy families new to your school or to your town or those with newly diagnosed food allergies would LOVE to hear how food allergy friendly your school is. If you think your school's made a good effort and deserves a tip of the hat, please let us know. I've created a simple Hall of Fame page here on Food Allergy Buzz where I'll house whatever recommendations come in. It'll be on the honor system. I will take your word for it. We'll start small for now, and can consider something more formal in the future if we get a good response. Let's get started and see what kind of entries we get!

Click here to visit the new FAB Food Allergy Friendly Schools Hall of Fame page and for more details on how to submit your school's info.
